To support the translation and publication of poetry and fiction by writers from Vietnam, Guatemala, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Curbstone Press will sponsor readings by international writers in bookstores, libraries, schools and communities with large minority populations.

Goodspeed Opera House Foundation, Inc.
East Haddam, CT

To support the development and re-creation of a musical theater work. After commissioning a re orchestration, book re-writes, and dance and vocal arrangements, Goodspeed Opera House will produce A Tree Grows in Brooklyn at its East Haddam mainstage theater.

To support the production of a new adaptation of Sophocles' Electra. Directed by TCG Resident Director Jonathan Wilson, the production will incorporate a multi-ethnic cast, complementary public programs and many educational events.

To support the production of a play. Mourning Becomes Electra by Eugene O'Neill will be directed by Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and presented in the fall of 2002.

To support the development of new works as part of the festival in 2003. To foster contemporary culture and community interaction, the Festival will sponsor presentations that relate to communities in New Haven.

To support the O'Neill Playwrights Conference and the O'Neill Music Theater Conference. These annual events offer playwrights, composers and librettists opportunities to develop new work.

To support a collaboration to create a new work. Pilobolus will work with the St. Lawrence String Quartet and composer Christos Hatzsis to create The Gathering.

To support an exhibition series Don't Trust Anyone Over 30, featuring the work of artists age 30 and under. An open call will be issued to artists of that age group living in New York state and the New England region, and a jury will select the recipients of solo exhibitions.
