of high- and low-tech resources that, in addition to providing
lessons in folklife, provide teachers with strategies to meet
Social Studies and English Language Arts content standards.

include establishing a cultural facility and providing technical

designed to provide audiences with access to the creative process
of the visual arts by attracting artists with diverse backgrounds
to Louisiana ArtWorks, a multifaceted arts complex.

New Orleans, LA

To support the NORD/NOBA Center for Dance. This cultural community
partnership between the New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD)
and the New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) will provide
year-round free classes and workshops.
Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra

To support a concert program exploring the connection between the
city of New Orleans and the Harlem Renaissance. Through a
collaboration with the New Orleans Museum of Art and Tulane
University's Amistad Research Center, three concert performances
will include an exhibition of works by Harlem artists and
educational activities.

To support workshops for media artists and students. Access to
training programs and sophisticated production facilities will
allow artists to create new work.

American Routes)

To support the production and national distribution of American
Routes, a weekly radio series from New Orleans devoted to the roots
of popular music and popular roots music. Folklorist Nick Spitzer
hosts the two-hour, weekend-oriented program, in which he combines
recordings of popular, folk, jazz and classical forms with
in-studio performances, field features and interviews.
University of New Orleans Foundation (on behalf of
American Routes)

To support field-recorded segments of American Routes. These
special features will focus on interviews with artists and
community members representing unique American regional and
cultural traditions.

To support a tour of Corps of Discovery--Musical Journey, a
new opera by Michael Ching with libretto by Hugh Moffat,
celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase.
Community performances and interactive educational residencies will
take place in eight cities and underserved areas throughout
Louisiana and East Texas in the 2003-04 season.
