To support the production of a contemporary musical with accompanying educational and outreach activities. David Bennett will direct Sunday in the Park with George created by the Pulitzer Prize-winning team of composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim and book writer James Lapine.

American Music Theater Festival, Inc. (aka Prince Music Theater)

To support the remounting, production, and tour of a contemporary musical with accompanying outreach activities. Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj will direct FROM THA HIP, a new work that fuses hip-hop, music, and text by creator/choreographer Clyde Evans and playwright/musician Albert Innaurato.

To support the world premiere of an original musical commemorating the destruction of Celilo Falls, a natural resource in Oregon. The Ghosts of Celilo was created by Oregonian artists Marv and Rindy Ross, Thomas Morning Owl of the Umatilla tribe, Chenoa Egawa of the Lummi tribe, and Tom Hampson.

Black Ensemble Theater Corporation

To support the Black Playwrights Initiative. The project will provide training to emerging playwrights in the development of new musical theater works to be showcased at the annual Chicago Black Playwrights Festival.

Goodspeed Opera House Foundation, Inc. (aka Goodspeed Musicals)

To support the revival, restoration, and production of a classic musical theater work with accompanying educational activities. Greg Ganakas will direct High Button Shoes with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Sammy Cahn, and book by George Abbott and Phil Silvers.

To support the production of a contemporary musical with accompanying educational activities. Once On This Island, with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, will be produced during the 2007 summer season.

To support the creation of a play with music based on local history. A collaboration with students and their families, teachers, and members of the public, the play will explore the history of family farming with a focus on barns as an emblematic centerpiece of daily life and will tour to non-traditional settings throughout Ohio and surrounding states.

To support the MCT Tour Project. Touring musical theater performing arts residencies will be offered to K-12 children nationwide.

To support the production of a new musical. Golden Motors is the first musical theater work by classical and jazz composer Derek Bermel with libretto by poet/writer Wendy S. Walter.

New York City Center, Inc.

To support the restoration, remounting, and staged concert productions of musicals in the Encores! series. The annual series of rarely-heard American musicals will be performed in New York City Center's 2,753-seat theater.

To support the Access Services Program for persons with disabilities. In partnership with the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, Paper Mill Playhouse will provide education and assistance in barrier-free access and access services to theaters and patrons with hearing, visual, and other physical impairments.

To support the production of a new musical adapted from a classic play. Cara Reichel will direct Illyria, a musical co-created with co-founding company member Peter Mills and adapted from William Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night.

To support the KidsWrites Workshop Program and an outreach tour. The project, intended to advance children's understanding of musical theater, includes a writing workshop that culminates in the creation of a musical.

To support the production of a new musical theater work celebrating Appalachian music and culture. Minstrel of the Appalachians is a musical biography of historian and archivist of traditional music Bascom Lamar Lunsford with script by playwright Randy Noojin.

Theatreworks/USA Corporation

To support a national tour of theater productions for young audiences. Theatreworks/USA will provide audiences in as many as 38 states and the District of Columbia with access to live theater and educational activities that complement school curricula.

True Colors Theatre Company, Inc.

To support the production of a contemporary musical with accompanying educational activities. The Wiz, with book by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, Luther Vandross, Timothy Graphenreed, and George Faison, will feature an all-youth multicultural cast.


 
Recent Grants
