Atlanta, GA $25,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support reviews of contemporary artists' work in the bi-monthly journal Art Papers. The reviews section includes an average of 32 articles by writers, many of whom will be published for the first time. Atlanta Opera Atlanta, GA $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Opera To support the Student Matinee Program. The company will provide program excerpts of Gounod's Romeo et Juliette to ninth-grade students of area public schools. Independent Media Artists of Georgia, Etc., Inc. (aka IMAGE) Atlanta, GA $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the 31st Atlanta Film Festival. The festival presents the best of current independent film and video to an audience of 25,000 people. Works screened during the festival range from animation to documentaries to regionally produced film and video, including experimental and student-produced work.
Mark, Sabrina Orah Athens, GA $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, Inc. (on behalf of High Museum of Art) Atlanta, GA $45,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support Louvre Atlanta, with accompanying catalogue and education programs. The second part of the three-year collaborative project between the High Museum and the Louvre will present some of the Louvre's masterpieces in this country for the first time and will feature exhibitions that illustrate the era in the Louvre's history as it evolved from private palace to public museum. Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, Inc. (on behalf of High Museum of Art) (Consortium) Atlanta, GA $115,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support the touring exhibition of Lorenzo Ghiberti's (1378-1455) Gates of Paradise, with accompanying catalogue and education programs. In collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the exhibition, titled The Triumph of Renaissance Art and Science, will bring three panels from this seminal work of art to America for the first time. Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, Inc. (on behalf of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) (Consortium) Atlanta, GA $50,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support A King Celebration, a project that celebrates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A collaboration between the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Morehouse College, the project will include performances, educational outreach activities, and a national radio broadcast. Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, Inc. Atlanta, GA $35,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the world premiere production of False Creeds, a new play by Darren Canady. The play was selected as the winning play in the Alliance Theatre's Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Competition. Savannah Music Festival, Inc. Savannah, GA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Savannah Music Festival. Performances will be held in historic structures and venues of downtown Savannah. Programming for the festival will include orchestral performances and solo recitals featuring soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian and jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves.
