LOUISIANA Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans, LA $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support the creation and presentation of works addressing the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The project will serve as a forum for residents and displaced New Orleanians and contribute to the healing process. Creech, Jr., Wayne Lake Charles, LA $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. Louisiana Folk Roots, Inc. Lafayette, LA $25,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the Dewey Balfa Cajun & Creole Heritage Week project and the Saturday Roots Heritage Festival. These events will feature performances and workshops on traditional Cajun and Creole music, dance, crafts, and storytelling traditions. Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College (on behalf of Louisiana State University Press) Baton Rouge, LA $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support the publication, promotion, and national distribution of volumes of poetry. Scheduled authors include Kelly Cherry, Brendan Galvin, Margaret Gibson, R.T. Smith, and Reginald Gibbons. National Performance Network, Inc. New Orleans, LA $70,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support dance touring and the creation of new work. The project will include dance residencies and related education and outreach activities throughout the United States. New Orleans Ballet Association New Orleans, LA $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support a series of dance performances and education and outreach activities. Companies will be presented on the concert stage and in community settings. The project will include nine concerts and 40 life-long learning activities, reaching approximately 22,500 people. Pelegrin-Davidson, Alison Mandeville, LA $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. Southern Rep New Orleans, LA $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the development and production of plays. The company will present Rising Water by playwright and novelist John Biguenet and The Breach by Catherine Filloux, Tarell McCraney, and Joe Sutton. Swine Palace Productions, Inc. Baton Rouge, LA $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the world premiere production of Cocktail, a new play by renowned performance artist Ping Chong and biochemist Vince LiCata. The piece will explore scientific and social issues in the treatment of HIV/AIDS.
