NEW MEXICO Chamber Music Albuquerque Albuquerque, NM $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the 66th annual June Music Festival. Activities will include the presentation of three chamber ensembles at the Simms Center for the Performing Arts at Albuquerque Academy, and scholar-led lectures and demonstrations. Gill, Lisa Moriarty, NM $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. Institute for Spanish Arts (aka Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco) Santa Fe, NM $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the creation of Maria Benitez: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: A Dance and Video-art Retrospective. The work will be an overview of Maria Benitez's history as a Spanish dancer as told through dance, music, and video. Music at Angel Fire, Inc. (aka Music from Angel Fire) Angel Fire, NM $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Music at Angel Fire's 24th Anniversary Festival. Activities will include Music in the Schools classroom performances and touring to the rural northern New Mexico communities of Las Vegas, Raton, and Taos, offering specific programs for each community. NewArt New Mexico, Inc. Edgewood, NM $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the Global DanceFest 2008, an annual festival of national and international contemporary dance. Companies presented include Faustin Linyekula/Les Studios Kabako from the Congo, and Ronald K. Brown/Evidence from the United States. Outpost Productions, Inc. Albuquerque, NM $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the third annual Creative Soundspace Festival. The project will present an artistically diverse group of artists in performances of avant-jazz, experimental, and improvisational music. Participating artists will include NEA Jazz Master and pianist Cecil Taylor and koto player Miya Masaoka.
Santa Fe Art Institute Santa Fe, NM $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support the Artists and Writers Residencies Program. Emerging and mid-career artists will be provided space in which to live and work while they focus on the creation of new work. As many as 30 artists will be hosted for periods of one to three months and will participate in open studio visits, workshops, and lectures.
Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival Santa Fe, NM $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the 35th annual Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. The project will include a diverse range of repertoire, guest composers, and world premieres, as well as free community and youth concerts. Santa Fe Desert Chorale Santa Fe, NM $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support commissions and performances of new works by composers Kirke Mechem, Bradley Ellingboe, and David Yeagley. Performances will take place in the St. Francis Cathedral, Lensic Performing Arts Center, Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, and in Ranchos de Taos and Albuquerque churches. Santa Fe Opera Santa Fe, NM $55,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Opera To support the American premiere of Tea: A Mirror of Soul by Tan Dun with libretto by Xu Ying and the composer. Education and outreach programs will include free public lectures about the opera and a symposium involving the composer, librettist, and director. Theatre Grottesco North America, Inc. Santa Fe, NM $12,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the production of a new play. Fortune: The Rise and Fall of a Small Fortune Cookie Factory. VSA arts of New Mexico, Inc. Albuquerque, NM $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support the Out of the Ordinary Festival. Performances, literary events, exhibitions, and film screenings by artists and about people with disabilities.
