OREGON Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Pendleton, OR $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the Even Start program. The program is designed to promote continuity and stability in the instruction of traditional arts in the tribal community and to expand the number of persons qualified to teach these skills. Do Jump! Extremely Physical Theater Portland, OR $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the remounting and production of an original play with education and outreach activities. Artistic director Robin Lane will choreograph and direct Entusiasmo!: A Show About Hope at the Newmark Theatre. Eugene Symphony Association, Inc. Eugene, OR $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Visiting Masters Program. Free, public master classes and workshops by flutist Sir James Galway, conductor Victor Yampolsky, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, and violinists Shannon Lee and Kathryn Lucktenberg will take place for aspiring professional musicians. Miracle Theatre Company (aka Miracle Theatre Group) Portland, OR $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support a Spanish-language production of Rosalba y los Llaveros by renowned Mexican playwright Emilio Carballido. Artistic associate Daniel Jáquez will direct and choreograph. Oregon Ballet Portland, OR $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the creation and presentation of a new work by choreographer Helgi Tomasson. The work will be presented as part of the company's winter program in the Keller Auditorium in Portland. Oregon Historical Society Portland, OR $35,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the Oregon Tribes Project. As part of the state's 100th anniversary, the project will tell the stories of Oregon's Native American communities through a series of exhibits, publications, public programs, and educational materials. Oregon Shakespeare Festival Association Ashland, OR $40,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the development and production of a new play. Adapted from a novel by William Saroyan, Tracy's Tiger, a chamber musical by associate artistic director Penny Metropulos, actor Linda Alper, and dramaturg Douglas Langworthy, will feature original music by composer Sterling Tinsley. Oregon Symphony Association (aka Oregon Symphony) Portland, OR $22,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the world premiere of Symphony No. 13, a newly commissioned work by Oregon composer Robert Kyr. Performances will be held at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland and recorded for subsequent radio broadcasts. Portland Art Museum (aka Northwest Film Center) (on behalf of Northwest Film Center) Portland, OR $35,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the Northwest Film and Video Festival and its tour throughout the Northwest. The festival showcases new work by media artists living in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Portland Opera Association Inc. Portland, OR $7,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Opera To support the production of Die Fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman) by Richard Wagner. A study guide and admission to the final dress rehearsal will be made available for students, and public outreach programs will expand community awareness of the musical and historical significance of the work. Rogue Valley Symphony Orchestra Ashland, OR $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support artist residencies. Violinist Ian Swenson and pianist Joyce Yang will participate in workshops, master classes, and performances with the orchestra. White Bird Portland, OR $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of dance companies in the White Bird/Portland State University Dance series. The project will include master classes and lecture-demonstrations. Yurdana, Matt Portland, OR $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships: Translation Projects FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship.
