UTAH Ballet West Salt Lake City, UT $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of a work by choreographer Jirí Kylían. Petite Mort will be presented at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City. The piece will be performed as part of Ballet West's education and outreach programs for Utah elementary and secondary students, teachers, and individuals with special needs.
Larsen, Lance Springville, UT $20,000 CATEGORY: Literature Fellowships FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support a creative writing fellowship. Repertory Dance Theatre Salt Lake City, UT $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of works based on stories of survival, by significant American choreographers from the 1950s to the '70s. The works to be presented include Icarus by Lucas Hoving, Mythical Hunters by Glen Tetley, and Lyric Suite by Anna Sokolow. Salt Lake Acting Company Salt Lake City, UT $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the world premiere production of Sexsting, a new play by Doris Baizley. The playwright collaborated with criminal defense attorney Susan Raffanti to create the story of a suspected Internet predator and the FBI agent who operates a sting to apprehend him. Southern Utah University Cedar City, UT $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support the production of a new musical adapted from a play with accompanying outreach activities. Lyricist Peter Sham and composer Brad Carroll's Lend Me a Tenor: The Musical was adapted from acclaimed playwright Ken Ludwig's play Lend Me A Tenor. Sundance Children's Theatre Inc. (aka Sundance Theatre) Salt Lake City, UT $35,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the Sundance Theater Laboratory, a new play development workshop for emerging and mid-career independent theater artists. The program will provide writers with the support of resource artists and mentors to develop new scripts, stage adaptations of previously written narratives, or develop new interpretations of classic texts. Utah State University (on behalf of Isotope: A Journal of Literary Nature and Science Writing) Logan, UT $5,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support the publication and distribution of issues of Isotope: A Journal of Literary Nature and Science Writing. The issues will include nonfiction, fiction, and poetry by both established and emerging writers.
