GEORGIA Alternate ROOTS, Inc. Atlanta, GA $45,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support the Tour and Residency Program. The multi-state project will provide services that will enable geographically-isolated artists and presenters to reach broader audiences, share information, and develop new work. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Inc. Atlanta, GA $23,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support the Youth Art Connection Program. Students, ages 6 to 12, will develop knowledge and skills in the visual arts by participating in a series of age-specific, evening workshops. Georgia Council for the Arts Atlanta, GA $669,600 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. Georgia Tech Research Corporation (on behalf of Poetry at Tech) Atlanta, GA $5,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support artist fees and promotion for the H. Bruce McEver Poetry Reading, as well as visits by the guest poets to middle and high schools in downtown Atlanta. Invited poets include Gary Soto, Opal Moore, and Laure-Anne Bosselaar. Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc. (aka Georgia Trust) Atlanta, GA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support a conservation survey to determine the appropriate treatment of deteriorating interior decorative finishes at Hay House in Macon, Georgia. Hay House is considered one of the nation's most advanced mid-19th century residences based on style, craftsmanship, and technology. IndepenDANCE, Inc. (aka Moving in the Spirit) Atlanta, GA $20,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support the Stepping Stones dance program. Professional dance instructors will teach weekly, after-school dance classes for 200 students, ages 3 to 16, at community sites around the region, primarily in underserved urban neighborhoods. Macon Symphony Orchestra, Inc. (aka Macon Symphony) Macon, GA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support performances of works by African American composers in observance of Black History Month. The Macon Symphony, under the artistic leadership of Music Director Adrian Gnam, will perform concerts at the Grand Opera House and Ft. Valley State University. Museum of Design Atlanta, Inc. (aka MODA) Atlanta, GA $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Design To support an education program about Atlanta's Beltline, an abandoned rail line that is being converted into a linear park. Students from local schools and neighborhood residents will work with designers to examine the historical context and future design possibilities for the park. National Black Arts Festival (aka NBAF) Atlanta, GA $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of dance artists of the African diaspora. The project will include the presentation of a new work by Dayton Contemporary Dance Company honoring visual artist Jacob Lawrence and a residency project with Abdel Salaam, artistic director of Forces of Nature Dance Theatre. National Black Arts Festival (aka NBAF) (Consortium) Atlanta, GA $50,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Presenting To support the creation of a 20th-Anniversary book and documentary film. Auburn Avenue Research Library, the organization's repository of archival materials, will document the festival's history; the initial run of 10,000 published packages will be disseminated through public broadcasting networks, libraries, and Web-based outlets. Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, Inc. Atlanta, GA $160,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts Touring To support the High Museum of Art's touring exhibition The Treasure of Ulysses Davis, with accompanying catalogue and education programs. Davis (1913-90) was a Savannah, Georgia, barber and wood carver who created a body of highly refined sculptures reflecting on his faith and humor in life. Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center, Inc. (on behalf of Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) Atlanta, GA $40,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support ASO Around Georgia, a community partnership initiative of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The tour will include performances and outreach activities as a means to cultivate meaningful partnerships between the orchestra and communities across the state. Savannah Music Festival, Inc. (Consortium) Savannah, GA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Southeastern High School Jazz Band Workshop. In partnership with the Georgia Music Educators Association, high school jazz bands from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina will participate in the two-day workshop. Southern Arts Federation, Inc. (aka SAF) Atlanta, GA $1,189,700 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. Springer Opera House Arts Association, Inc. (aka Springer Opera House) Columbus, GA $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support a production of Carousel by composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist/librettist Oscar Hammerstein. Accompanying outreach activities will include free panel discussions on the topic of domestic violence and its portrayal in the musical and free tickets for all area domestic violence counselors and their clients in order to promote healthy dialogue around the issue. True Colors Theatre Company, Inc. Atlanta, GA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support the production of a contemporary musical with accompanying educational activities. The Wiz, with book by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, Luther Vandross, Timothy Graphenreed, and George Faison, will feature an all-youth multicultural cast. UNIMA-USA Atlanta, GA $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support the publication and distribution of Puppetry International Magazine and the Puppetry Yellow Pages, and the expansion of Web site services. The project documents puppet theater works, provides technical assistance to puppet artists, and promotes the international visibility of American puppeteers.
