Greenville, MS $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support folk arts fieldwork in the Mississippi Delta. Folklorists will identify and document undiscovered traditional artists for future programming; restructure, authenticate, and professionalize the Delta Blues Festival; and create a database of regional traditional cultural resources. Mississippi Arts Commission Jackson, MS $629,000 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. University of Mississippi Main Campus (on behalf of Center for the Study of Southern Culture) University, MS $5,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support the 2008 Oxford Conference for the Book at the Center for the Study of Southern Culture. The program will be dedicated to the Southern novelist, folklorist, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston. Walter Anderson Museum of Art, Inc. (aka WAMA) Ocean Springs, MS $110,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts Touring To support a touring exhibition of the work of Walter Inglis Anderson (1903-65). Although considered by prominent art historians to be an equal among his contemporaries, Anderson's work is still relatively unknown except by museum curators and collectors.
