OHIO Children's Concert Society of Akron, Ohio (aka Children's Concert Society) (Consortium) Akron, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support concerts for school children and related educational activities. Consortium partner Akron Symphony Orchestra will perform concerts at the E. J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall for all Summit County area second- and third-graders. Cityfolk, Inc. (Consortium) Dayton, OH $12,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support presentations of NEA Jazz Master McCoy Tyner. Cityfolk will present three concerts by Tyner with consortium partners The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas and "We Always Swing," Inc., in Columbia, Missouri. Cleveland Museum of Art Cleveland, OH $45,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support the phased reinstallation of the museum's permanent collection. This phase will provide visitors with new access to the Armor Court as well as the collection of Old Master paintings, American art, and decorative arts. Columbus Museum of Art Columbus, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support the Art Matters Collection project. The project will prepare the bulk of the collection for transport to safe, climate-controlled, off-site storage during a major expansion and renovation of the museum's campus. Community Arts Project, Inc. (aka King Arts Complex) Columbus, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of Muntu Dance Theater of Chicago. The company will offer performances, classes, and workshops in African and African American dance, music, and folklore. Contemporary Arts Center Cincinnati, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support the exhibition Graphic Content: Contemporary and Modern/Art and Design. Mid-century design and painting, with an emphasis on Cincinnati-based artists, will be paired and contrasted with contemporary works by artists of several younger generations. Contemporary Dance Theater, Inc. (aka Contemporary Dance Theater) Cincinnati, OH $15,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of dance companies at the Jarson-Kaplan Theater at the Aronoff Center for the Arts. The project will include the Guest Artist series featuring the presentation of touring professional dance companies, a Choreographers Without Companies concert featuring new work by local choreographers, and one week of residency activities for each of the touring companies. Dayton Ballet Association (aka Dayton Ballet) Dayton, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the creation and presentation of a world premiere ballet by choreographer Gregory Robinson. The work will be performed during the company's winter repertory program at Dayton's Victoria Theatre. Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Association (Consortium) Dayton, OH $30,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support School Partners with Artists Reaching Kids (SPARK). Partnering with the Kettering School District, musicians will join classroom teachers from area elementary schools to create lesson plans that incorporate music concepts into classroom curricula. GroundWorks Dancetheater Cleveland Hts, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support educational outreach activities and guest artist residencies. The project will involve workshops for students and their families in grades three to eight, performances, master classes, and the creation of new works by guest artists. Hippodrome/Colony Historical Theatre Association, Inc. Marietta, OH $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support professional conservation of a circa 1919 fire curtain mural. The mural, attributed to the artist John Z. Wood, was painted by the Twin City Scenic Company of Minneapolis. Jazz Arts Group of Columbus Columbus, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the inaugural year of a jazz academy. Designed to educate adults as well as children, the academy will offer 17 courses in a fall session and two spring sessions. Mad River Theater Works West Liberty, OH $44,500 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support the creation of a play with music based on local history. A collaboration with students and their families, teachers, and members of the public, the play will explore the history of family farming with a focus on barns as an emblematic centerpiece of daily life and will tour to non-traditional settings throughout Ohio and surrounding states. Massillon Museum Massillon, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts Touring To support the touring exhibition Visions of Midwestern Impressionism, with accompanying catalogue. The project will focus on the years between 1880 and 1930, investigating if there was a truly Midwestern Impressionist style, and examining the similarities and differences among Midwestern artists and the larger American Impressionist movement. Ohio Arts Council Columbus, OH $812,000 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. Professional Flair, Inc. (aka Dancing Wheels) Cleveland, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the commissioning of a work for Dancing Wheels by choreographers Stuart Pimsler and Suzanne Costello and the presentation of a full-length work. The commissioned work will be used for community outreach, and the full-length work, created in partnership with the University of Akron, will incorporate new technology. ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, Inc. Columbus, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the commissioning and premiere of a concerto for chamber orchestra and string quartet by Lera Auerbach. The project will feature the Borromeo String Quartet with the orchestra and will include a free master class for high school musicians and open rehearsals for the public. Verb Ballets (aka formerly Cleveland Repertory Project) Cleveland Heights, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the preservation of works by choreographer Heinz Poll (1926-2006). The project will involve the creation of a preservation resource portfolio for dancers and choreographers. Youngstown State University Youngstown, OH $10,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support Telling My Story. Students in the 7th through 12th grades from the Adams Alternative School will study photography, writing, reading, and recording, and as the culminating activity, they will create a book of photographs and a CD of their oral memoirs. YS Kids Playhouse (aka YSKP) Yellow Springs, OH $20,000 CATEGORY: Learning in the Arts FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts for Children & Youth To support a summer theater arts program. Led by local, national, and international artists, students ages eight to 18 will write, produce, and perform two full-scale, summer dramatic performances.
