SOUTH CAROLINA City of Charleston, South Carolina (on behalf of Office of Cultural Affairs) Charleston, SC $35,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Local Arts Agencies To support the performance components of A Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. The project is the music education component of the 30th anniversary of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. Members of the Charleston Symphony (CSO) and Na Fidleiri, a local Irish music ensemble, will perform for children of the South Carolina Lowcountry. ETV Endowment of South Carolina, Inc. (aka Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz) Spartanburg, SC $60,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the production of new programs for the weekly radio series Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz. National Public Radio will distribute the programs, hosted by NEA Jazz Master Marian McPartland, to American audiences on 259 stations in the United States and to international audiences via NPR's Worldwide Service. Greenville Symphony Association (aka Greenville Symphony Orchestra) Greenville, SC $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support concerts and educational activities featuring Scottish percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie. The two performances will be preceded by educational activities for children and adults who, like Glennie, are hearing-impaired. Lancaster County Educational Foundation (aka Educational Foundation of USC Lancaster) Lancaster, SC $30,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support a Catawba Indian pottery exhibition with a focus on 1997 NEA National Heritage Fellow Georgia Harris. The exhibit will include pottery, photographs, audio displays, a digital online component, and teaching materials. South Carolina Arts Commission Columbia, SC $673,300 CATEGORY: Partnership FIELD/DISCIPLINE: State & Regional To support Partnership Agreement activities. South Carolina Traditional Arts Network Belton, SC $10,000 CATEGORY: Access to Artistic Excellence FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the Backyard Folklife Gathering project. The gatherings will bring together traditional artists, educators, and community leaders in an informal setting to celebrate the South Carolina's rich cultural heritage.
