FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts To support after-school and summer classes in blues music instruction led by professional musicians. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced-level students learn to sing and play blues on guitars and harmonicas; they also study the cultural background of the music with an emphasis on Alabama blues history. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the Archive of Alabama Folk Culture, with salary support for an archivist to digitize key collections. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts To support Community Partnership Program, which provides weekly dance classes to children with physical, mental, or emotional challenges. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Design To support production, printing, and distribution of the DesignAlabama Annual Journal and DesignAlabama Online. Focusing on all of Alabama, the 28- to 32-page Annual Journal covers a wide range of topics including historic preservation, community design, and designer profiles and is published in the fall of each year; DesignAlabama Online premiered in April 2009, and has since been published to a growing subscription base. A committee of digital archiving specialists will develop a process for documenting 25 years of work by regional, national, and international artists exhibited at Space One Eleven.
