To support the planning and documentation of Ike Papale, the Living Legacy of Hawaiian Hats, a project that will examine the traditions of Native Hawaiian hat-making. The project will include identification of existing documentation, consultation and planning meetings, and information collecting on Hawaiian hats and hat making, with photography and interviews.

To support a professional development project for teachers and teaching artists to learn to use the Arts First Essential Arts Toolkit: Hawai`i Fine Arts Grade Level Guide for the K-5 Classroom, followed by collaborative residencies. In each school teams of elementary teachers and one teaching artist will collaborate to plan and implement standards-based arts content.

To support a workshop in the traditional Fut-Saan style of Lion Dancing and musical accompaniment. Master artist Sifu Lim Meng-Kok will offer instruction in all aspects of the Lion Dance, in which two individuals mimic the actions of a dancing lion.

To support a series of performances, exhibits, and community festivals. Project components will include literary readings, workshops, visual arts exhibitions, and performances by artists to whom the Maui community otherwise would not have access.

To support professional development to train Maui teachers to integrate visual arts and storytelling into the curriculum, as well as arts integrated collaboration classroom residencies in Pomaikai Elementary School and Samuel Enoka Kalama Intermediate School. A partnership with the Hawaii Department of Education-Maui District, teachers and teaching artist teams will collaborate on arts integrated units of study during a summer institute and periodic workshops.
