FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Opera To support the Opera Iowa Touring Educational Troupe, a program that will engage artists to reach students in underserved rural Midwestern schools. In partnership with the Iowa City Community School District, Des Moines Metro Opera will mount fully-staged touring productions of Malcolm Fox's Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing for kindergarten to 6th-grade students and Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) for 7th through 12th-grade students, and provide advanced teacher training through Iowa Public Television's cable network, reaching every school in Iowa. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support After the Flood: Rural Outreach Concerts, including educational events in small rural Iowa communities affected by the floods of June 2008. Twelve concerts and six educational events will be offered in venues such as community centers, libraries, schools, and an opera house. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support a dance residency with Hubbard Street 2 presented by Hancher Auditorium. A variety of educational activities are planned as well as public performances and the creation of a new work.
