FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the production and national distribution of American Routes, a weekly radio series devoted to the roots of popular music and popular roots music. Folklorist Nick Spitzer hosts the two-hour, weekend-oriented program, in which he combines recordings with in-studio performances, field recordings, and interviews. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Local Arts Agencies To support the presentation of the River City Jazz Masters concert series and the accompanying jazz series, The Listening Room. In addition to performances, proposed artists Diane Schuur, Vincent Herring, the Dave Holland Quintet, and the Joe Lovano Quintet - among others - will conduct master classes and participate in artist residencies. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Media Arts To support the production of the weekly radio and website program New Orleans All the Way Live. Each one-hour episode highlights live musical performances recorded regularly by station WWOZ 90.7 FM, and includes interviews with musicians and feature segments on the food, traditions, and culture of New Orleans. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Design To support a master landscape plan for the Old State Capitol grounds. The Old State Capitol grounds, designed and planted circa 1850 by Thomas Affleck -- noted American horticulturist, journalist, and scholar -- represent the largest green space in downtown Baton Rouge and serve as the connection for many of its cultural attractions. In partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Department, NOBA will provide students free, year-round dance training in two tracks: the Open Track is open to any student interested in dance and the Pre-professional Track is focused on intensive dance learning. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Literature To support the 26th annual Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival and the 10th annual Saints and Sinners Literary Festival. In 2010, the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival presented 47 events featuring 120 authors; the Saints and Sinners Literary Festival, which targets the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities, featured 37 literary presentations by 85 authors.
