Centered around the Kyo no Machiya, a 19th-century silk merchant's home installed in the museum in the 1970s, the project will expand the audience via the web with a three-dimensional immersive tour; archival film footage of its disassembly, crating, transport, and rebuilding in Boston; architectural and historic documents; a searchable catalogue of 1,000 artifacts associated with the house; and videos and curriculum about life in Kyoto today.
