Community Musicworks Providence, RI $22,500

FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support free music education and performance programs targeted to reach at-risk children and youth. The Providence String Quartet will be in residence to teach and mentor more than 100 students as well as perform in its downtown storefront facility and in other community venues. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the creation and presentation of Brain Storm, a multimedia dance/theater production that examines the current state of brain research and its implications for society. The piece will be developed both in Providence, at Everett's Carriage House Stage, and in Greenfield, New Hampshire, in conjunction with a two-year residency with The Crotched Mountain Foundation, a not-for-profit serving individuals with brain injuries and other disabilities. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts To support year-round after-school and summer arts learning in a variety of disciplines that offers urban youth who need to gain academic skills time to practice and create in studios with professional artist mentors. CityArts Community Youth Arts Program takes place in a newly renovated education building that houses fully equipped ceramics studio, dance studio, art and nature lab, MacMedia Lab, gallery, printmaking studio, and performance spaces. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support Philharmonic on Fire, a free festival concert on the riverfront with bonfires on the water, where the Providence, Moshassuck, and Woonasquatucket Rivers meet. In partnership with WaterFire Providence, the orchestra's live performance will replace the 90-minute recorded soundtrack used during previous festivals. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts To support Studio Arts Project, in which artists and designers mentor youth as they learn the principles and practice of art and design. Youth create their own works and commissioned work for clients in one of four studios: visual arts, graphic design, screen-printing, and digital photography.
