FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Museum To support the Historic Painted Theater Curtains project. The project will entail examination and documentation (using a digital Hasselblad camera) of as many as 120 curtains that depict rural, small town, and New England culture in the early 20th century. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts To support Words Come Alive, professional development workshops for classroom teachers. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Learning in the Arts To support the Community Partner Program, a mobile digital photography lab. In-Sight will teach up to 60 students, ages 11 to 18, in rural Southern Vermont the art of photography free-of-charge during eight- to ten-week-long workshops offered in the fall, spring, and summer. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the 17th annual West African Dance and Drum Festival. Master artists from Guinea and Senegal will offer a series of workshops and a performance of traditional West African music and dance, culminating with a West African dance performance featuring many of the master artists and workshop students. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Theater To support and expand Voices of Community 2012. Working with consortium partner Touchstone Theatre of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and additional partner Hartbeat Ensemble of Hartford, Connecticut, Sandglass will present a series of performances by artists from communities of color and allow the companies to share presenting expertise, maximize limited resources, and explore how theater can foster dialogue across diverse audiences on issues of race, ethnicity, and religious diversity. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Folk and Traditional Arts To support the "New Neighbors Music Project, a compilation of audio recordings of musicians from Vermont's refugee communities. This project will produce a compilation of recordings and make them available via download and compact disc; develop companion materials for classroom instruction; organize and host teacher workshops to introduce these materials; create an accompanying website; offer technical assistance to musicians who wish to make classroom presentations; and advise select musicians in preparing to perform for non-refugee audiences. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the Made in Vermont Music Festival Tour of performances in underserved rural communities. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Musical Theater To support the world premiere production of Saint-Ex, a new musical by composer Jenny Giering and author Sean Barry, to be directed by Kent Nicholson. Inspired by the life of authorand aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (The Little Prince), the project will feature daytime student performances, an online performance guide, pre- and post-show discussions, and a day-long teachers' workshop.
