FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Arts Education To support after-school and summer classes in blues music instruction led by professional blues musicians. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced-level students learn to sing and play blues on guitars and harmonicas and study the cultural background of the music with an emphasis on Alabama blues history. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Dance To support the presentation of the 2012 Alabama Dance Festival. The statewide festival will feature performances by Ronald K. Brown's Evidence: A Dance Company and Brazz Dance Theater, showcases of Alabama dance companies, pre-professional and professional master classes, professional development workshops, summer intensive auditions, and dance education workshops. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support the creation of an outdoor social and environmental sculpture by artist Matthew Mazzotta. The artist will collaborate with the Coleman Center and area citizens to create a multi-purpose public space that will float on Lake Louise in York, Alabama, using recycled materials from an abandoned building. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Challenge America To support Jazz in the Park, a series of concerts at W.C. Patton, Ensley, East Lake, and Arthur Shores Parks. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Challenge America To support Melodies and Musings - Our Appalachian Legacy, a series of dulcimer workshops targeted to older adults. The lessons will culminate in a public concert featuring the workshop participants, as well as professional musicians including Bill Collins, Steve Eulberg, Heidi Muller, and Butch Ross. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Visual Arts To support Interchange- Alabama/Texas, an artist exchange program between Space One Eleven in Alabama and Project Row Houses in Texas. The exchange of eight artists between Space One Eleven in Alabama and consortium partner Project Row Houses in Texas will allow for the creation and installation of new work by selected artists and the exchange of dialogue and ideas by each organizations' curators.
