To support InLight Richmond 2013, a juried exhibition of light-based art. The exhibition will include video projections, interactive environments, multi-media projects, light installations, a community lantern parade, and a curatorial program in which a group of artists will be commissioned by a curator to produce projects that respond directly to the site. Facades, walls, storefronts, doorways, parking lots, alleyways, and the natural environment in the Shockoe Bottom neighborhood will serve as installation sites.

To support a residency opportunity for visual artists to create, interpret, and present new work. The residency will provide an opportunity for four American artists to spend a year in Rome in a historic setting on the Janiculum hill within the walls of Rome, and will include a stipend, studio space, housing, and meals.

To support a residency program for ceramic artists. During the month-long residency artists Linda Arbuckle, Matt Kelleher, Shoko Teruyama, Chris Staley, Wanxin Zhang, and Tony Marsh will receive studio space, housing, an honorarium, a materials budget, and transportation. They will participate in public demonstrations, lectures, and workshops culminating in an exhibition of representative work at the Bray's North Gallery Exhibition space.

To support Home Away, a multimedia exhibition. Organized by guest curator Kris Kuramitsu, Home Away will feature eleven artists and collaborative teams, each of which have strong ties to Los Angeles yet live part-time in cities across Asia and Latin America. Their work will highlight various international artistic practices that resonate with Southern California audiences and will delve into the politics of place, space, and identity.

To support the New Commissions Program. The program will afford between four and six emerging New York-based artists and one international artist the opportunity to create and present new work. Each artist will receive an artist fee, a production budget, a solo exhibition, a publication, and technical, logistical, and organizational support to realize the work.

Artists expected to participate include Dawolu Jabari Anderson, Michael Paul Britto, Kara Crombie, Damien Davis, Lauren Kelley, Robert Pruitt, Erika Ranee, graphic novelists Mat Johnson and Jeremy Love, Nyeema Morgan, Katayoun Vaziri, and Tian XiaoLei.

To support a series of three solo exhibitions. Following a two- or three-month residency, artists Enrico David, Teresa Hubbard, Alexander Birchler, and Rashid Johnson will create site-specific installations that explore themes of race and identity in the American West.

Organized by guest curators, each of the four exhibitions will be accompanied by a lecture and a catalogue that explore traditional artistic practices of book-making while encouraging contemporary interpretations of the book as an art object.

Centre for the Living Arts

To support an artist residency and public practice initiative by artist Rick Lowe in several historic inner-city neighborhoods around Mobile. A series of community engagement activities will be designed to stimulate creativity, civic-mindedness, and economic revitalization through a nine-month visual and performing arts program that will examine how people of the region are imagining the future in relation to economic development, education, health care, and housing. Activities will include exhibitions, live music, storytelling, film screenings, public forums, and workshops.

To support an exhibtion of work by mixed media artists who create sculptural compositions from books. The exhibition will be presented at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art during the Spoleto Festival. Proposed artists Noriko Ambe, Brian Dettmer, Long-Bin Chen, Guy Laramee, Francesa Pastine, and Doug Beube will be asked to create new work that responds to the diminishing relevance of the physical book.

To support Artists on the News, a multimedia website that will provide a platform for artists to disuss critical issues affecting local communities. Through the creation and presentation of interviews, podcasts, and videos, the website will feature weekly updated content connecting the thinking and ideas of artists to events happening around the world. Artist columnists will provide local reports from their cities or regions, increasing public awareness of artists as active citizens positively working within communities to shape society.

As many as six artists nominated by a committee of southern non-profit arts professionals will receive travel funds, room and board, and a stipend for their participation in a four-week residency that includes access to Elsewhere's collection of vintage objects, production support to create experimental new work, professional documentation and development tools, project publicity, and participation in Elsewhere's global artist network.

To support publication of the bilingual photography journal Nueva Luz. Each issue will feature the work of emerging photographers of color, an essay by a guest curator/editor, a section dedicated to cultural dialogue, and a section for emerging local artists. Outreach will include artist lectures that will be available through podcasts, panel discussions, and digital access to the publication through the organization's website.

To support the creation and distribution of ESOPUS, a bi-annual publication. Each issue features three contemporary artists' projects, writing on the arts by creative practitioners from various disciplines, fiction and poetry by emerging authors, visual essays, interviews, archival material reproduced from the Museum of Modern Art archives, and a themed CD of music commissioned from established or emerging musicians.

Each issue will include trends in public policy, funding, technology, and conference reports, recent awards, and projects that explore the diversity and excellence of public art.

To support a 50th anniversary publication commemorating the founding and history of the foundation by artist Jasper Johns (b.1930) and musician John Cage (1912-1993). With interviews, essays, photographs and ephemera, the publication will document the first benefit exhibition to which many leading artists contributed work and out of which the FCA granting program was established. Initial contributing artists included Willem de Kooning, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Frank Stella, and Andy Warhol.

To support the creation of a sculpture by African American artist/landscape architect Walter Hood. The sculpture will explore themes of African American history and identity in a participatory public art and audio installation. The figure of a horse will be layered over with papier mache text and images from African American community members and storytellers from Oakland's Fruitvale district.

As many as four artists will be selected to receive a stipend, production costs, travel costs, and technical support to realize new work for installation in Midway's 1,000 square-foot gallery space.

To support the re-creation of Marcel Breuer's St. Paul house (1962) that will be floated down the Mississippi River as part of the Northern Spark nuit blanche festival. Minnesota artist Chris Larson will work with Professor of Architecture Charlie Lazor, a group of graduate architecture and BFA students from the University of Minnesota, and the current owner of Marcel Breuer's Frank Kacmarcik home to recreate it to scale following the original architectural plans, using wood frame, cardboard, and paint. Set on a solid floating platform, the house will float on the river and then be set on fire as a symbolic act of celebration and destruction.

To support printmaking residencies for Native Americans at the Tamarind Institute in New Mexico and at Northern Editions in Darwin, Australia. The artists will receive a stipend, a materials budget, travel costs, and a portfolio that includes the work of all project artists. To support the " Image and Word" issue of World Literature Today.
