Master artists from Mali, Guinea, and Senegal will offer a series of workshops and a performance, culminating with a West African dance performance featuring many of the artists and workshop students. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Artist Communities To support the Literature in Translation (LiT) Program. As many as 16 literary translators will receive month-long residencies. This project is estimated to benefit an audience of 966 people. VSA Vermont,Inc. Winooski, VT $10,000

FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Challenge America To support the second phase of VSA Vermont's Engage, a juried exhibition showcasing visual art by Vermont artists with disabilities, with associated outreach activities. Visual artists Robert Gold, Alexis Kyriak, and Willow Bascom will participate in a public panel discussion about their artwork, its role and meaning in their lives, and the experiences they have had as artists with disabilities working with mainstream art organizations. FIELD/DISCIPLINE: Music To support the professional development of emerging musicians through the summer program and artist residencies. During the annual summer chamber music festival, musicians will participate in rehearsals, coaching sessions, master classes, and performances with previous faculty and guest artists such as members of the Juilliard and Cleveland String Quartets; pianist Gilbert Kalish; cellist Joel Krosnick; and composers Mario Davidovsky, Osvaldo Golijov, and Steven Mackey.
