The Old State Capitol grounds, designed and planted circa 1850 by Thomas Affleck -- noted American horticulturist, journalist, and scholar -- represent the largest green space in downtown Baton Rouge and serve as the connection for many of its cultural attractions.

During this phase of the Municipal Art Society's Preservation and Climate Change initiative, an advisory board of preservation architects, government officials, and energy efficiency professionals will select a small historic building to undergo a mechanical systems assessment and energy audit and will undertake the appropriate retrofitting.

Unbuilt Washington, along with adjunct exhibitions in collaboration with the Washington Architectural Forum, American Institute of Architects, and Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, will examine significant architectural projects that were proposed for the Washington, D.C. area, but for some reason were never executed, revealing dramatically alternate architectural histories for the city.
