Madison, capital of Wisconsin, is also home to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the second largest city in the state with a population topping 230,000 and a metropolitan area of 560,000.
To better serve its residents, the City of Madison is developing a major park in the center of the city, Central Park. The park will include a performance space, a skate park, a bike path, an accessible playground, and community garden spaces, among other amenities. With its MICD25 grant, the city is also planning a public art piece for the park. Environmental artist Lorna Jordan is working with the park's design team to integrate her work into the construction of Central Park. Jordan will help create the park's green infrastructure by including stormwater sculptures, LED lightworks, energy-harnessing artworks, sculptural gathering places, and pathways. A great lawn within the park will be the site for summer music festivals that are expected to draw large audiences.
