Fort Stewart
Orlando Opera, May 11, 2006
In coordination with their visit to Fort Stewart, Orlando Opera performed a 40-minute, fully staged adaptation of the classic Humperdinck opera Hansel & Gretel at two elementary schools, one on-base and one off-base, reaching almost 1,000 students. At the base school, a willing principal acted as Hansel & Gretel’s mother, while a dozen students served as gingerbread cookies. With multiple educational activities and an evening performance at Club Stewart, the Orlando Opera left their audience satisfied. Highlights of the evening performance included several songs from West Side Story and excerpts from Carmen, Don Giovanni, and La traviata.
