NAS North Island was unable to host a performance for adults, so San Diego Opera carried out educational activities at the local elementary school.
The students of Silver Strand School in Coronado, California were introduced to Papageno, Carmen, and several other characters from Operaland in the San Diego Opera Ensemble's performance of "Operaquest: Papageno's Phenomenal Adventure." The children laughed when Papageno chased birds through the "forest," while at the same time they learned about opera terms such as aria, soprano, and coloratura in a fun and interactive way. 64% of Silver Strand's students are children of Navy personnel stationed at NAS North Island.
