A festive mood prevailed over the more than 1,000 guests attending a performance by Michigan Opera Theatre during the winter holidays. The performance included opera and musical theater classics as well as several seasonal tunes, such as "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas." Several of the holiday songs were done in sing-along style, with audience participation. Featured operatic works included excerpts from Bizet's Carmen as well as "Summertime" from Porgy & Bess; musical theater highlights included songs from Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific. This was a family-friendly event, and many on base had taken advantage of the holiday break to come out with the kids.

The performance space was a traditional theater, typically used for movies. Michigan Opera Theatre provided two backdrops for scene changes and made use of special lighting and effective costumes. The six singers were accompanied not only by a pianist but also by several other instrumentalists. One of the singers served as narrator for the performance, introducing works and engaging the audience. This military base theater was transformed to an impressive production setting, and the audience responded cheerfully.
