Operation Homecoming Submission GuidelinesThe National Endowment for the Arts is still collecting writing from U.S. troops, veterans, and their immediate family members about their wartime experiences. There are no restrictions upon genre — poems, letters, personal narratives, stories, memoir, journal writing, and other literary forms are all welcome. Some works may address actual combat, others may focus on life on the homefront. Many works may be personal — a troop’s or spouse’s attempt to capture and clarify a singularly challenging moment in life. Some of it may rise to literature — vivid accounts of experience that arrest the reader’s attention and linger in the memory. All of it will have historical value as the testimony of men and women who saw the events directly. The Operation Homecoming archives collected during Phase I of the program (April 2004 to April 2008) will be preserved in both the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration and the Library of Congress. Submissions from the newly launched Phase II also will be preserved. Submissions should be no longer than 50 typescript, double-spaced, numbered pages neatly printed and clearly reproduced on standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper in font sizes no smaller than 11 and no larger than 14 points. Copies of submissions cannot be returned. Please include a cover sheet that includes the following information: YOUR FULL NAME SUBMISSION ADDRESS Submissions can be emailed to: Or mailed to:
