City of Little Rock, Arkansas

Little Rock, Arkansas
$75,000

Once a vibrant hub of local life, Little Rock's Main Street has fallen on hard times in recent decades. With support from the Arts Endowment, the state capital plans to revitalize this downtown urban artery for the benefit of the city's 185,000 residents.

The Our Town grant will specifically fund the design phase for the creation of a cultural corridor along Main Street. The City of Little Rock will work with Marlon Blackwell Architect and the University of Arkansas Community Design Center to develop plans for mixed-use buildings that will host space for not-for-profit artist organizations, studio and gallery spaces, and affordable artist housing. Project activities will include an analysis of the corridor, public design charrettes, an urban design plan, and architectural concepts for streetscape and façade improvements for five buildings on the 500 block of Main Street. By creating a visible cluster of artists and artist organizations, Little Rock will strengthen its creative community and renew a central section of its downtown district.
