Main Street Oregon City
Oregon City, Oregon
Oregon City, Oregon, with a population of approximately 32,000, has the distinction of being the "End of the Oregon Trail." A centerpiece of the city's downtown is the Oregon City Municipal Elevator, one of only four municipally owned and operated elevators in the world. The elevator carries 12,000 riders a month between the city's historic downtown and residential neighborhoods.
Main Street Oregon City, in partnership with the City of Oregon City and four arts, governmental, and educational organizations, is commissioning a public light artwork that will activate and enhance the Oregon City Municipal Elevator as part of a project called Illuminate Oregon City. Project activities include a call for artists, a competitive selection process, a series of public engagement sessions led by the selected artist, and installation of the artwork on the elevator's exterior facade. The project is part of Oregon City's ongoing downtown revitalization plan.
