Austin Community Design and Development Center
Mart, Texas $25,000
|
In Mart, Texas, Chambless Field is a revered public space, having served as a football field from 1930 to 2007 for the city's 2,300 residents. During a 2011 NEA Citizens' Institute on Rural Design workshop, the community identified repurposing Chambless Field as a priority. The not-for-profit Austin Community Design and Development Center, the City of Mart, and Mart Community Project are partnering to develop a master design plan for the space with their Our Town grant. The repurposed field will include public art installations and outdoor performance spaces, providing a new, vibrant community commons for Mart's residents. A strong focus of the project is to engage marginalized populations in the planning activities to ensure that the field becomes a meaningful public space enjoyed by all residents.
