Uniontown Community Development Association
Uniontown, Washington, has a population of approximately 1,200 residents and is the center of the rural area known as the Palouse, which includes Whitman and Asotin Counties in Washington and Latah and Nez Perce Counties in Idaho.
In 2006, the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown was opened as a community arts space with studios, classrooms, performance space, and a cooperative retail shop. The Uniontown Community Development Association and Town of Uniontown, along with three additional community partners, will use their Our Town grant to commission Hutchinson & Maul Architects to develop a master site and landscape plan for the Dahmen Barn site. Design work will include an amphitheater for outdoor performances, spaces for public art, and accessory buildings for classroom and studio spaces. Project activities will also include community meetings to inform the design, and the commissioning of public art for the site. The finished project will provide a new outdoor arts venue for Uniontown and the Palouse region.
