Connection Guide: Technical Tips on Hosting a Viewing Party

1. Gather all audio/visual equipment. At least one week before the live webcast, reserve an Internet accessible computer, projector, or TV. Know and test your specific computer to projector or TV requirements a week prior to your viewing party. Determine audio needs for your audience (i.e. external speakers, etc.).

2. Check your Internet connection
Check to make sure your Internet connection is working properly. High speed internet (Cable, FIOS, or DSL) connection is required in order to view the live feed.

3. Connect to www.arts.gov for the live webcast on:

Monday, April 29, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm  - Poetry Out Loud National Semifinals

• 9:00 am – 12:00 pm - First Semifinal: students from East Central and Northeast States (CT, DE, DC, ME, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, SC, VI, VT, VA, WV)

• 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm - Second Semifinal: students from Midwest and South Central states (AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MI, MS, MO, NE, OK, PR, TN, WI)

• 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm - Third Semifinal: students from Upper Northwest and Western states (AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MN, MT, NV, NM, ND, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA, WY)

Tuesday, April 30, 7:00 – 9:00 pm ET -  Poetry Out Loud National Finals

• After the roll call of state champions, nine finalists, three from each regional semifinal, vie for the title of Poetry Out Loud National Champion.

Poetry Out Loud webcast viewing parties are intended solely as educational events to help foster dialogue about poetry, and about the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest. Poetry Out Loud webcast viewing parties must be free of charge, no purchase requirements of any kind.
