The National Endowment for the Arts national initiative Shakespeare in American Communities was honored with a 2004 Golden Eagle Award from CINE for its video "Shakespeare in Our Times," produced by Hillman & Carr of Washington, D.C. The video was among four awardees in the Professional Non-telecast Division's Adult Education category.
"Shakespeare in Our Time" introduces students to Shakespeare and his continuing relevance through selections from contemporary films based on Shakespeare's plays including Shakespeare in Love, Ten Things I Hate About You, and Renaissance Man. Shakespearean actors Wallace Acton and Noel True host this 25-minute journey through the Bard's life, times, and work. Among the film clips, the actors provide historical background and theatrical insights into how actors approach Shakespeare's plays and how his themes and characters still resonate with today's audiences.
CINE supports non-theatrical film and video production through its semi-annual Golden Eagle Film and Video Competition and its development workshops for film and video professionals and mentoring sessions for students. The award competition honors high quality professional production in film and video, twice a year judging more than 1,000 entries.
