National Council on the Arts Convenes for 166th MeetingMarch 24, 2009
Washington, D.C. – The National Council on the Arts, the advisory body of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), will meet in a public session on Friday, March 27, 2009, in Room M-09 of The Nancy Hanks Center, 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. In addition to Council business, the public session will feature a performance by the DC Youth Orchestra/Chamber Music Ensemble, a nationally recognized music education program that has served young people in the DC metropolitan area since 1960. Following this performance, NEA Director of Media Arts Ted Libbey will give a presentation on the NEA’s Arts on Radio & Television program and its long-term support of From the Top, a program which celebrates the nation’s top young musicians through radio and television broadcasts, online media, and a national tour of live events and outreach programs.
Also presenting at the meeting is Clara Miller, President of the Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF). For more than twenty years, NFF has served the financial needs of nonprofits nationwide, helping them to build and renovate facilities, fund growth needs, and expand and sustain operations over time.
The National Council on the Arts advises the Chairman of the NEA, who also chairs the Council, on agency policies and programs. Members of the Council are Presidential appointments and are selected for their widely recognized knowledge of the arts or their expertise or profound interest in the arts. There are 14 members including the chairman and six ex-officio members from Congress.
