“Hank Jones was one of Detroit’s most renowned jazz musicians, a pianist known for his distinctive, swinging sensibility, as well as his associations with Charlie Parker and Ella Fitzgerald, among others. Awarded an NEA Jazz Masters Fellowship in 1989 (his brother Elvin also received this award in 2003) and the National Medal of Arts in 2008, Hank leaves behind an amazing legacy as both a leader and a sideman and can be heard on thousands of recordings. We at the NEA, like many others around the world, mourn his passing while we celebrate his extraordinary life.”

The NEA recently released a podcast with Hank Jones, discussing his life and career. Click here to listen to the full podcast.
