CDBG funds were used to acquire a 6,000 sq.
ft. vacant warehouse for use as a fully accessible community center owned
and operated by the City of Bullhead; City Parks and Recreation Division
of the Community Development Department.
City of Eloy

The funds received were used to renovate and
repair the damage caused by the 1994 fire to the Eloy Community Center.
The repairs included new plumbing, electric, HVAC. Accessibility improvements
were made to the two large conference rooms, kitchen and bathrooms.

new, fully accessible senior center, which includes a craft center.

Chicot County used the CDBG grant to construct
a new Senior Center equipped with accessible doorways, lighting, and bathrooms.
The features include: wider doorways for wheelchair entrance, wheelchair
ramps, lowered drinking fountains, accessible bathrooms complete with
large stall, handrails and lower sinks.

in the county courthouse.
Connecticut
Town of Wallingford
$253,000
In 1992, the town of Wallingford began a project
to rehabilitate a historic railroad station that had been used as a community
center since the early 1970s. The removal of architectural barriers for
this project consisted of installing: a wheelchair lift, which was funded
by Amtrak; a shed-like enclosure for the lift to blend in with the historic
design, funded by the Gaylard Hospital; and accessible restrooms, funded
by CDBG.

City of Bunnell

The City of Bunnell used CDBG funds to make
their community center accessible by widening doorways, installing wheelchair
ramps, and making the bathrooms and drinking fountains accessible.
Cross City

Cross City used CDBG funds to increase accessibility
by creating curb cuts in sidewalks, ramps into historic buildings, and
accessible bathrooms in the buildings.

The City of Hilliard used CDBG funds to improve
contrast in their signage to better accommodate visual impairments, add
curb cuts to sidewalks, and ramps to entrances of older buildings.

Key West used their grant to make several historic
buildings accessible. Accessibility improvements include wider doorways,
elevator installation, accessible lever door handles, and drinking fountains.

City of Macon

The city purchased a stage lift and installed
ramps and an elevator to make an old church accessible to people with
limited mobility. An Early Intervention Program involving the arts is
held in the church.
City of Albany

The Ritz Cultural Center, Theater, and Art Training
Center for low-income youth were made accessible. Steps at the entrances
to the buildings in this large complex were eliminated and replaced with
low-incline walkways that meet access standards.
City of Albany

Funds were used to renovate the Carnegie Library,
which houses the Albany State Arts Council and practice rooms for activities
at the Albany Municipal Auditorium. The restrooms were renovated to include
access features and the buildings entrance was made accessible by
installing a ramp.
City of Atlanta

Access work for the Center for Puppetry Art
included reconstruction of the existing entrance, stairwell, doors, and
exterior lighting, and installation of a wheelchair ramp.

The old Vaudeville & Movie theater and adjoining
buildings were renovated to create a cultural center to be used for visual
and performing arts training as well as events. The grant was used to
install a new elevator and equipment to make the second floor accessible.

The City of Polo used CDBG funds to make improvements
to its library such as creating accessible parking, making the bathrooms
accessible, and installation of a wheelchair lift.
City of Savanna

Savanna, a community of 3,819, used CDBG funds
to renovate its city hall by modifying the front entrance and restrooms
to make them accessible. The village provided $10, 800 in local funds
as part of the grant agreement.

The County of Morris received funding to make
their multipurpose community center and hospital accessible.
City of Ellinwood

Funds were used to make restrooms in city parks
and swimming pools accessible.
Kentucky
City of Covington

The Carnegie Arts Center, a historic building
that contains a 750-seat theater, four galleries, and an art shop, was
renovated to include an elevator while retaining its architectural integrity.
City of Louisville

CDBG funds were used to make the Memorial Auditorium
accessible to people with disabilities. Restrooms were made wheelchair
accessible and an elevator was installed. The Auditorium is on the Register
of Historic Places and is one of the citys primary facilities for
cultural events.

library, including a lift, accessible bathrooms, a ramp, and several interior
architectural modifications for improved access.

located in the village area, to create a community center. The Center
will have two accessible bathrooms, a lift, and accessible walkways.
Concord

The City of Concord and the County of Merrimack
made improvements to an old city firehouse to create both an accessible
day care and senior center. The center includes accessible bathrooms and
walkways.
New Jersey
Flemington Borough

The Borough used CDBG funds to remove architectural
barriers at the Borough Hall and the Flemington Public Library. Improvements
at the library include ramps, an elevator, and retrofitting of restrooms.
City of Ventnor

Ventnor used a CDBG grant to add an accessible
special events room to the Ventnor Senior Citizens Center. The Senior
Center is adjacent to a cultural center which provides arts classes; the
grant is also pertinent to senior programs at the cultural center.
New Mexico

These funds were used for the planning of a
cultural district in the city, designed to be fully accessible with ramping,
curb cuts, accessible restrooms, etc.

This grant was used for renovation of the Mill

In order to make the Sullivan County Museum,
Art and Cultural Center fully accessible to approximately 8,000 physically
disabled persons countywide, architectural barriers were removed in both
the mens and womens restrooms.

Center installed a four-stop, 2,000-pound capacity elevator to provide

of automatic door openers, and Braille signage. The fire alarm system
was renovated with the addition of visual (strobe lights) to its audio
alarm systems.

center more accessible to people with disabilities. The improvements include
accessible restrooms and an accessible drinking fountain.

LeGrandes City Hall, built in 1913, is
on the National Register of Historic Places. The grant, along with $50,000
in local funds, was used to install an elevator on the exterior of the
building, and to improve accessibility in other areas of the building.

in the Three Rivers Stadium Complex.

Newberry used CDBG funds to renovate and install
an elevator in the Opera House in Newberry, which was built in 1882 and
is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Renovation of
the opera house is part of the Main Street revitalization efforts; the
total cost for all renovations is $3.8 million.
South Dakota
City of Sioux Falls

The Civic Fine Arts Center received this grant
as part of a major effort to make their historic structure accessible
to all visitors. Accessible parking and walkways were created, a ramp
was installed at the entrance, and a wheelchair lift was installed in
the building to provide access to all three levels. A major focus of the
project was to insure that the historical value of the building was not
compromised.

County Courthouse, the oldest courthouse in the state still in continuous
use. Funds were used to install an elevator, accessible restrooms, ramps,
railings, accessible fountains, and proper signage.
West Virginia

The city used a portion of the funds to install
an elevator in the Barbour County Courthouse and accessible restrooms
in the Mt. Liberty Community Center.
Wisconsin
Village of Coloma

Coloma used its grant to construct a new fully
accessible community/senior center and library. Colomas previous
center was not accessible, could not expand to meet current demands, and
was in need of major structural repair. Coloma committed $199,775 to this
project.
City of Sparta
$220,000
Sparta used its grant to construct a new center
to be used for community, arts counselor activities and recreation. It
provided an accessible facility, which the area had been previously lacking.
The total cost of the project was approximately $500,000.
City of Washburn
$75,696
Washburn received this grant to add an entrance
ramp and an elevator to the public library. The total cost of the project
exceeded $175,000.
City Waupun
$123,750
Waupun used the grant to make its public library
accessible by removing architectural barriers. The total cost of the project
was over $250,000.

Big Horn County received funds for renovations
