The NEA awarded Mendelssohn Club a grant in support of our 2014 project Anthracite Fields. We commissioned the piece by Julia Wolfe and performed its world premiere as an immersive experience with projected images and texts, choreographed elements, costumes, and instruments with Bang on a Can All Stars. This piece marked a creative high point in our history, left a lasting impression on our audiences.

The pinnacle of the project was almost a year later from its premiere, when Julia Wolfe, the composer, was awarded the 2015 Pulitzer Prize in Music for Anthracite Fields. We are so grateful to the NEA for helping us bring this project to life, to such a great result!
