I am who I am today because of the arts. As a child, music and dance gave me solace and a place to explore my emotions. The objects made by ancient cultures helped me grow and feel connected to others. As a teen, making visual art gave me an outlet when I had nothing else to help me work out struggles I had in my life. Math and reading were a struggle but I could gain a feeling of accomplishment in art. As an artist, I gained confidence and self esteem to do things that I would never have tried to accomplish otherwise. Now, I get to give back to the children of my community by being an art teacher and sharing the world of the arts with them.
