The restoration of Middlebury, Vermont's jewel-box 1884 theater drew the community together in unexpected and gratifying ways. The project, which resulted in an epic re-opening in 2008, is beautifully and emotionally captured in the 5-minute video "The Rebirth of a Landmark."
But restoration of a building is only half of the story. It's one thing to build a building. It's quite another to build a theater - a program that is flexible, inviting, inclusive and sustainable. We're equally proud of the fact that we now produce 165 events a year and serve the entire community, hosting plays, musicals, dance and opera, but also the high school junior prom, memorial services, flea markets, book readings, children's events, weddings, conferences, and anything else the community can dream up. Town Hall Theater has now become the town's hall, and that is beautifully documented in the 8-minute video "The First Five Years."
