I joined a newly-formed community orchestra in 1993 here in our economically depressed southern Ohio town. The Portsmouth Wind Symphony has re-ignited my love for all genres of music, increased my self-confidence and helped me improve my flute playing (especially since I hadn't played since 1968!). I've since served on the board of directors and have continued to work closely with the board since I left them a few years ago. Portsmouth is a small Ohio River town with a bad economy and continuing drug problems so typical of small towns all over the country - I like knowing that I (and all the other great people in the PWS) are doing something positive for our town.
