MY ART STORY by

My parents exposed my sisters, brother and me to all sorts of arts—poetry and story, museums of visual art, dance and theatre performances, music ranging from jazz to folk to opera, and more—from the earliest ages, and what a gift to any human to have in her pocket aesthetic experiences and possibilities. I'm enriched and grateful, and happy also to see how much the young people in my family and in my classes embrace the arts and the joys of beauty and possibility among us all. The arts are a worthier funding recipient for federal taxes than are any weapons programs.
