In this weeks podcast, we explore creative placemaking in Miami, Florida. Miami is claiming its place as a vibrant cultural center thanks to the generosity of funders like the Knight Foundation, and the hard work and dedication of a number of visionaries. These include Scott Cunningham, who created the University of Wynwood, a fictitious school that nonetheless produces O, Miami, a month-long poetry festival; Lolo Reskin, owner of Sweat Records which is a record store, event space, and coffee shop that sponsors over 120 events a year throughout the city; and Beth Boone, artistic director of the Miami Light Project, a collaborative performance/work space that presents contemporary dance, music, theater, and multimedia artists. In a wide-ranging conversation, Boone, Reskin, and Cunningham discuss the many dynamics of art and community in Miami.
