This week’s podcast, is a conversation with 1994 NEA National Heritage Fellow Simon Shaheen, possibly the greatest Arab musician of his generation. A virtuoso on both the violin and the oud, Simon is a creative force who moves effortlessly from traditional Arabic sounds to jazz and Western classical styles  melding them with melodic ingenuity and unparalleled  musicality. Born in a small Galilean village to a musical family, Shaheen grew up in a household where both Arab and Western music thrived. In this excerpt from the podcast, you’ll hear some of Shaheen’s glorious music and his thoughts about being raised with multiple cultural traditions.
