Art Works Podcast: Clive Gillinson

In this week's podcast, Clive Gillinson talks about the changes he helped bring to Carnegie Hall. In 2005, Gillinson came to Carnegie Hall from the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), where he had first been a cellist before moving to the position of  managing director. Under his leadership, the LSO transformed from an organization near collapse to an innovative artistic force that reached people of all ages in and out of concert halls. When Gillinson took over as executive and artistic director of the legendary New York City music venue, he immediately set about taking Carnegie Hall out of the actual building and bringing it into the city itself. Motivated by the conviction that the arts should be central to society and available to everyone, he's created festivals, music scholarships, and education programs, while creating cross-cultural partnerships with institutions like the Juilliard School of Music, the New York City Public School System, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and the Museum of Modern Art.
