Art Works Podcast: Jack DeJohnette

This week's podcast is the first of a two-part interview with legendary drummer and 2012 NEA Jazz Master Jack DeJohnette. The Chicago-born, New York-based musician has played with virtually every major jazz figure from the 1960s on, including NEA Jazz Masters Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman, Sonny Rollins, Abbey Lincoln, and Miles Davis. DeJohnette played with Davis in the late '60s and early '70s, a period of great experimentation for Davis and his band.

If you love jazz, don’t miss the 2012 NEA Jazz Masters Concert and Awards Ceremony. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2012, at Jazz at Lincoln Center. In addition to Jack DeJohnette, this year the NEA is honoring Jimmy Owens, Von Freeman, Charlie Haden, and Sheila Jordan. The concert may be sold out, but you don’t have to miss the action: we are webcasting it live! Click here for more information about this free event and live webcast.
