Here's a brief "look" at The Big Read Kickoff sponsored by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina -- one of three Egyptian partners for The Big Read Egypt/U.S

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina launched The Big Read: Egypt/US project on Feb 7, 2009, with five hours of festivities on the Bibliotheca Alexandrina plaza. Approximately 1000 people attended the kickoff event.

A colorful hut on the Corniche side of the Library attracted visitors.

A lively parade with Bibliotheca Alexandrina banners carried by volunteers ages 12 to 60+.

Throughout the five hours, a multimedia introduction to To Kill a Mockingbird was broadcast on a massive plasma screen while people from all over the world filled in their answers to the question "Who is the Other for you?" on a flipchart. The librarians of the Bibliotheca also set up a book display "African Americans in literature" with more than 50 books and a booth with flyers and handouts for upcoming Big Read Events in the entranceway to the library.
