In honor of Veteran?s Day tomorrow, we?re going to hear an excerpt from Tim O?Brien?s heart-wrenching novel, The Things They Carried. In the title story, we learn precisely what soldiers carried when they trudged through the jungles of Vietnam as read by actor Bradley Whitford. Additionally, we hear poignant commentary by novelist Richard Currey, poet E. Ethelbert Miller, and former Army Captain Craig Mullaney, who literally carried his beloved copy of the book to Afghanistan in 2003. The music you?ll hear is an aptly named track called ?Memorial? by Explosions in the Sky, who, by the way, claim the book as one of their favorites.
