The Wildness Within

The Call of the Wild, used courtesy of Aladdin Classics

It finally feels like winter, and so naturally we turn to Jack London's tale of adventure, The Call of the Wild. In the book, there are two sets of characters, one human, the other canine. Buck, the protagonist, is a dog who is kidnapped, uprooted, and traded from California to Alaska. His first owners were a pair of French-Canadians, Perrault and Fran├žois, who were employed by the government to deliver mail to the remote outposts of the Yukon. Buck had to work fast to learn the harsh ways of the wild. Let's listen to a few contributors, including Robert Redford who reads the excerpts from the book. [4:38]
