MD Anderson Cancer Center Arts in Medicine Program

Wed, 2016-10-05 14:13 -- Don Ball

The MD Anderson Cancer Center has an artist-in-residence who works with pediatric patients and their families on collaborative, large-scale projects and one-on-one art sessions to give patients a sense of control and purpose, reduce anxiety and pain, make patients more comfortable in the hospital environment, and build community among patients and families. A recent project was the Spacesuit Project, in which spacesuits painted by children in the Arts in Medicine program were worn by astronauts on the International Space Station.
